I am Elias, a 25 years old man originally from Gothenburg, Sweden, living in Barcelona. I am currently in the final term of my Master’s degree in economics at the University of Gothenburg. One of my great interests is to follow scientific progress, obviously in economics, but also in other fields such as physics, psychology, and philosophy. I feel like I am a true social scientist at heart. I am obsessed with trying to figure out how people work, why we behave in certain ways, and what truly makes us happy. This obsession is probably the reason I have gotten so passionate about economics, but also why I am a particularly social and extroverted person who loves traveling and getting to know new people. Besides studying and reading, I am also passionate about football and love being out in nature hiking and mountain climbing.
I am very passionate about economics, which explains why I have passed through my university studies quite smoothly since the start. I think my best trait, both for studying and in other projects, is that I seem to enjoy what I do more than my peers. Initially, when my plan was to study Ph.D. right after the Master, my friends and family were all astonished by my so-called “discipline” and “fighting spirit” to even consider studying for 9 years straight. I have always dismissed that notion. To me, it never feels like discipline is the source of energy, but rather that I do not need any discipline at all because I am genuinely passionate. I am not rowing a boat, I am simply utilizing the wind to comfortably sail my way forward.
The final term of my studies solely consists of the Master’s thesis, which means that I have a lot of independence and freedom until the summer. I can do all my studies remotely and can plan everything according to how I see fit. This has given me the opportunity to move to Barcelona, Spain where I currently live. My long-term plan here is to pursue a Ph.D. in behavioral economics, since one of Europe’s best universities in that field is located here. However, I have decided to postpone my Ph.D. for some time, in order to pursue other postponed personal projects and take the opportunity to work with economic analysis professionally.
My schedule until the summer would allow me to work part-time, a maximum of 50%, as it would be parallel to my studies. I currently have no career plans for after my graduation in June, but I will continue to live in Barcelona. However, if I manage to get a job that fits my preferences during the spring and I enjoy it, I would happily continue part-time or full-time if the opportunity arises. My ambition is to find another life project to be passionate about. Hence, I have a quite narrow window of job opportunities I would consider applying for. Based on what I have read about your organization and what you are searching for, I intuitively feel like this is one such opportunity.
In summary, I am excited about a new unexplored chapter of my life, getting to work professionally with my passion. I am confident that I would contribute to your organization with good economic intuition, specific knowledge from economic research, as well as great passion and work rate. What I want in exchange is to work in an organization that values personal initiatives and would allow me to feel responsible and passionate about my work, so I can continue to develop as an economist further.
